Experiment 1
Experiment 2

Two experiments were conducted using flower buds that were collected from a tree resulting from one accession (ILRI accession No. 15021) of S. sesban and growing in the compound of the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), Addis Ababa.

Pollen grain viability (in the second experiment) and germination (in both experiments) were assessed from mature flower buds 20, 21 and 22 mm long from end to end. In preliminary experiment work it had been found that pollen grains from flower buds that were smaller than 20 mm in length did not germinate as well as the longer, mature buds.
